First International Plant Health Conference

21-23 September 2022 in London

The Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) of the United Kingdom are proud to announce that the first International Plant Health Conference (IPHC) will take place from 21 to 23 September 2022 at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London, United Kingdom.  As one of the main legacies of the International Year of Plant Health 2020, the Conference was originally planned to take place in 2020 and hosted by Finland, but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Conference will convene countries from around the world to discuss global scientific, technical and regulatory issues related to plant health aiming to contribute to a number of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, amongst other objectives. This three-day event will take place in a hybrid mode. All IPHC sessions and side events are going to be streamed online but participants are also encouraged to take part to the event in person. The UK and DEFRA welcome and encourage the participation of the global plant health community to come together and discuss future challenges, including climate change, transboundary pests and the development and use of international standards and guidance

Training session on the morphological identification of Thysanoptera, with special focus on Thrips palmi Karny, 1925

From 20 October 2022 to 21 October 2022

EVENT CONCLUDED

In 2022, the EURL organizes a training course focused on thrips. The goal is firstly the morphological identification of Thrips palmi, but it actually ambitions a wider scope providing an overview of the order and a methodological guidance for samples preparation. The training will take place in the EURL facilities in Montferrier-sur-Lez (Montpellier) and will last 1,5 days on October 20th-21st. A maximum number of seven attendants per session can be received1. All charges (travel, hotel expenses and daily allowance) will be reimbursed for one NRL representative per EU Member State . The provisionnal program below might still evolve, according to the participants expectations:

  • Introduction to Thysanoptera. Ecology, taxonomy, economical importance...
  • Overview of classification. Suborders and main families.
  • Initiation to the morphology of adult Terebrantia. Anatomy and nomenclature of diagnostic features.
  • Sampling and slide-mounting.
  • Identification of adult Thrips palmi and related or morphologically close species. Presentation of available documentation and practice.

EVENT CONCLUDED- Please, find all the material (report, presentations and videos) from the event by clicking HERE

1. Please notice that if applications outnumber positions, priority will be given to NRLs that obtained a non-conform result in the 2020 Thrips palmi PT. In case of strong demand, a second session will be organised in 2023.

PT 2022 Thaumatotibia leucotreta

From 02 May 2022 to 14 October 2022

Event concluded, final report available

The proficiency test was organized in 2022 by the Agence nationale de securité sanitaire, de l'alimentation, de l'environnement et du travail (Anses) , as part of its activities as a partner of the European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL) for Insects and Mites. The purpose of this test was to evaluate the participating laboratories on their capacity to implement the EPPO PM7/137(1) standart or any equivalent method to identify T. leucotreta through the analysis of larval specimens.

This report (Report No. RF_22TLM) is distributed to the participating National Reference Laboratories, to the NCA and the EC by the organizer. Reproduction of this document is permitted in full only, publication is not permitted.
