Christos Kourtis
BSc Biochemistry and Microbiology (combined), University of Leeds, UK. MSc General and Medical Microbiology, University College London, UK.
Works at the State General Laboratory of Cyprus, the official control laboratory of the Ministry of Health for food, water, environment, drugs, cosmetics and forensic chemistry.
He initially worked at the Water Microbiology and Virology Laboratory (1996-2009.He then moved to the Food Microbiology Laboratory, of which he has been Head since 2011,
and was promoted to Senior Microbiologist in 2022.
Since 2009, he has been involved in the following:
- Official microbiological control of foods
- Foodborne outbreak investigation
- Networks of National Reference Laboratories for coagulase positive staphylococci and Listeria monocytogenes
- Microbiological Risk Assessment (since 2013) and Emerging Risks EFSA networks (since 2016)
- CEN study for the ISO 19020 (Method for the detection of staphylococcal enterotoxins) validation.
- EuroBioTox project
- Data provider for the EFSA annual Zoonoses One-Health report
