ISS TEAM

The National Reference Centre for Botulism (CNRB) was established by the Italian Ministry of Health in 1986 to support hospitals and public health authorities in the laboratory diagnosis of botulism cases and outbreaks. To date, the CNRB is one of the national reference laboratories belonging to the Department of Food Safety, Nutrition and Veterinary Public Health of Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS).

The CNRB carry out the ISS mission primarily by providing laboratory diagnosis of human and animal botulism cases/outbreaks, collecting and analysing epidemiological data, developing diagnostic methods, affording advice and support to the public health authorities in critical issues related to the management of botulism in humans and animals, and through the coordination and participation to national and international research projects in botulism and BoNT-producing clostridia field.
